Various projects have been started by the central government for the safety of women in the country. Among them, an important project called Emergency Call Box was started under the Nirbhaya Project. In this call box project one can directly contact police control room with the help of call box. At present, more than 300 emergency call boxes have been installed in Ahmedabad. Which is getting good results and getting about 100 calls per day.
A push of a button will send a message to the police control room:
Under the Nirbhaya Safe City Project in Ahmedabad, Gujarat University, Sindhu Bhavan Road, Navrangpura, Satellite, Prahladnagar, S.G. Emergency call boxes have been installed in various areas including highways. The peculiarity of which is that if a person needs immediate police help, pressing the button of the box sends a message to the police control room and the nearby PCR van, and the police staff can reach the spot within minutes. This call box also has the facility of video calling. So the information of the caller is also available. Emergency call boxes have been installed at about 300 places in Ahmedabad. This system is especially useful when women are molested in public places or when someone is in trouble. According to the police, the project is for women’s safety. But, this project is useful for all people including senior citizens. In which about 100 calls are received at the police control room. Currently, the project has been implemented in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Lucknow, including Ahmedabad.
