An Air India plane flying from Ahmedabad to London crashed while taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. The plane took off from the airport at 1.38 pm and the accident occurred at 1.40 pm. According to initial reports, the rear of the plane hit a tree during takeoff. It is also said that the accident occurred due to a technical fault in the plane.

91 people including crew members have died in the Air India plane crash that took place in Ahmedabad today (June 12) afternoon. Reports have been received that former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has also tragically passed away in this plane crash. The news of Vijay Rupani’s death has spread an atmosphere of mourning in the political circles of Gujarat. Bharatiya Janata Party leaders have started reaching Vijay Rupani’s residence. A huge crowd has gathered outside Vijay Rupani’s house. Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil tweeted on social media platform X, “The news of Vijaybhai Rupani, with whom I worked as a colleague in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. His death in a plane crash is unfortunate. Extremely tragic and unimaginable sad news. The plane going from Ahmedabad to London crashed within minutes of takeoff. I am deeply saddened by the news that many people have lost their lives and been injured in this incident.”

I request Congress workers to help the accident victims, donate blood and help the administration wherever needed. As the by-elections of Visavadar and Kadi are underway, I announce the cancellation of all public meetings, receptions, rallies for today. The entire Congress family shares the grief with the bereaved families. I pray that God gives the families of the deceased the strength to bear the grief and I pay my respects to the deceased.On the other hand, former Gujarat Chief Minister Shankarsinh Vaghela, who was on a three-day campaign tour for the Visavadar by-election, immediately stopped his trip and left for Ahmedabad after receiving the sad news of the plane crash near Ahmedabad today. He expressed his condolences and informed that he was saddened to know about the death of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani in this accident. May God rest his soul and give courage to his family at this time.

I knew him personally for the last many years and he was a very good man. I have no words for his untimely demise. My deepest condolences to his family in this time of grief.
