Blueprint of school health check-up: 24 children with congenital malformations, 19 with heart, 8 with kidney disease: 6 with cancer

Bhavnagar: Under the School Health-National Child Health Program, 9 RBSK teams of Bhavnagar Municipal Health Department have organized anganwadis, private kindergartens, private kindergartens, government and private schools, grant in aid schools, central schools for children from newborn to class 12. Health checks were conducted at Vidyalayas, Children’s Homes, Orphanages, Madrasas. A total of 4,546 newborns were screened at delivery points at 61 delivery points, 316 anganwadis and 76 schools, totaling 67,109 child anganwadis from last April to July-2024 under the School Health-National Child Health Program by the Municipal Health Department. Health screening was also conducted at the school, in which 1 child with spinal cord problem, 1 child with cleft lip and palate, 12 children with clubfoot, 1 child with congenital heart disease and 9 children with other congenital problems were screened at the delivery point. A total of 24 children have been found to have congenital defects. About 11,070 children were tested for hemoglobin and blood group under the School Health-National Child Health Program, out of which 3,952 children were found to be anemic. 19 children with congenital heart disease, 8 children with kidney disease, 6 children with cancer disease, 2 children with congenital deafness, 1 child with congenital cataract, 2 children with congenital retinal disease, 2 children with Down syndrome among the children examined during health check-up under school health program. , 1 child with cleft lip and palate, 9 children with crooked legs, 282 malnourished children, 1,379 children with skin diseases, 2,448 children with respiratory diseases, 2,771 children with dental diseases and 637 children with eye diseases. , 235 children with ear, nose and throat disease, 43 children with seizure disorder, 90 children with developmental delay were found. All these were provided treatment and referral services as required at Urban Primary Health Center and Sir T. Hospital, Bhavnagar. Also, children with serious problems like congenital heart problems were referred to UN Mehta Kadayak Hospital, Ahmedabad, children with kidney problems were referred to Kidney Hospital, Ahmedabad, children with cancer problems were referred to Cancer Hospital, Ahmedabad. A total of 21,042 children aged 10 years and 16 years (Class 5 and Class 10) were given TD vaccination under the TD vaccination campaign to protect against tetanus and diphtheria along with school health check-up. A total of 13,411 children who completed 5 years of age were given a second booster dose of the triple vaccine (Danur, Diphtheria and Pertussis) to protect against Dhanur, Diphtheria and Pertussis.
