To prevent the immersion of any kind of idol in Tapi river passing through Surat, the municipality creates an artificial pond for idol immersion during Ganesha festival and Dashama festival. As the festival of Dashama is being celebrated in a grand manner this year too, the municipality has taken up the construction of artificial ponds at five places in the city. To prevent pollution in the Tapi River passing through Surat, the municipal system has become strict after the Tapi Purification Project besides the order that no idols of any kind should be discharged into the Tapi River.
For the past many years, the municipality has been constructing an artificial pond for the immersion of any statue. Like every year this year also this year the statue of Dashama has been established in Surat. After the completion of this festival, the work of decommissioning the statue has to be done. Therefore, the municipality has taken up the construction of artificial ponds at 5 places for the immersion of Dashama statue. The municipality has started construction of artificial lake at Dakka Owara in central zone, Ramji Mandir Owara in Rander zone, Lanka Vijay Owara in Katargam, near Sarthana V.T. Circle in Varachha-A and Varachha-B zone, Dumas Kandi Paliya in Athwa area. Along with this, the municipality has appealed to the people that, in order to prevent pollution in the Tapi river and to protect the environment, the idols of Dashama should be immersed in the mandap, in the house, in addition to the artificial pond.
