84 Lakh WhatsApp Account Banned: The country’s largest social media platform WhatsApp has banned around 84 lakh accounts of the country. Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, has taken this action in just one month. According to the company, their platform was being used for scams, so the company has banned these suspicious accounts. WhatsApp was informed by many users about this type of scam and this type of complaint was being received on the platform.
According to the transparency report presented by the company, Meta has banned around 84,58,000 WhatsApp accounts for the safety of users. This action is taken to comply with Section 4(1)(d) and 3A(7) of the Information Technology Act. After continuous complaints, WhatsApp has increased its monitoring and the company has banned the accounts which were found to be suspicious.
One month of action
According to the company report, it was found that Meta has banned all these accounts between August 1 and 31. Of these, 16.61 lakh accounts were immediately closed, though the rest were banned as suspicious after investigation. The company closed more than 16 lakh accounts without user complaints, as their misuse came to light during monitoring.
The company received more than 10 thousand complaints
According to the report, the company received 10,707 complaints from users in August, 2024. Of these, the company had taken strict action against 93. Apart from this, complaints received through email and other media were also investigated in depth. According to the company, most of those were complaints related to account scams and exploitation.
Account gets banned for these reasons
If a user sends excessive bulk messages or uses it to share spam or fraud or false information or spread rumours, his account is banned.
If a user violates Indian law by using WhatsApp for questionable activities, his account will be banned.
If someone complains or tries to exploit a user on WhatsApp, such user’s account may be banned after investigation.
