Creamy Layer in Reservation: Recently the Supreme Court gave a judgment to provide a creamy layer in the reservation of SC and ST categories. Now in this regard the central government has said that it will not implement the creamy layer in SC and ST reservation. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that a decision was taken in this regard in the meeting of the Union Cabinet. In the Cabinet meeting, the judgment given by the Supreme Court regarding the creamy layer in the SC and ST reservation was discussed in detail. Dr. B.R. The constitution drafted by Ambedkar does not provide for any creamy layer in the reservation system for SC-ST. The Central Government is committed to Dr. Ambedkar’s constitution. Therefore reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes will be applicable as per the constitutional guidelines. Creamy layer means the underprivileged section of the society which has become economically and socially prosperous. People coming under creamy layer are not given benefit of reservation. At present the provision of creamy layer is applicable in OBC reservation. Apart from this, the provision of creamy layer applies in the case of promotion of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Other Backward Classes (OBCs) get 27% reservation in government jobs and educational institutions. According to the provision of creamy layer, if the annual income of an OBC family is more than 8 lakh rupees, then the boy or girl child of that family does not get the benefit of reservation. He gets jobs or admissions through non-reserved quota.
