Violence has once again erupted in Manipur’s Jiribam district. Five people have been killed in indiscriminate firing between Kuki and Maitei groups. The suspects set fire to a house. According to the information received from the sources, indiscriminate firing is going on at the scene. The attack took place in Nungsekpi of Jiribam district, which is about 7 km from Jiribam police station. A police official said that a person was shot dead while sleeping in a house. On the other hand, 4 other people were killed in indiscriminate firing between the armed men of the two opposing groups. Militants barged into the house of a man living alone in a remote area about 5 km from the district headquarters and shot him dead while he was sleeping, police said. The killing was followed by a fierce exchange of fire between armed men of the warring communities in the hills about 7 km away, in which 4 militants, including 3 hill militants, were killed. Earlier on Friday night, suspected extremists attacked former Chief Minister Merambam Koireng’s house with a rocket. In this incident, an old man died and six people were injured. A few days ago, three people were injured in another drone bomb attack in Manipur’s Senjam Chirang. Manipur Police gave this information in a statement. He also said that security forces are deployed in the area. The latest attack comes a day after the bombardment of Kautruk village in Imphal West district by several drones launched by ‘suspected kooky insurgents’.
