Madhabi Puri Buch: A new report by American short-seller company Hindenburg Research has made serious allegations against SEBI chief Madhabi Puri Buch and her husband. Madhbi Puri Buch, the first woman chairperson of SEBI, holds the post from 1 March 2022. Madhavi Buch served as a whole-time director at SEBI from April 2017 to March 2022 before becoming the Chairperson of SEBI. Controversy also arose when Madhbi Puri was made the chairman of SEBI. There is a tradition of appointing an IAS officer as the Chairman of SEBI. Modi government broke this tradition and made non-IAS Madhbi as the chairman. Madhbi is only the second non-IAS to become the chairman of SEBI. Prior to this, the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government made former LIC chairman Gyanendranath Vajpayee the chairman of SEBI in 2002. Born in Maharashtra in 1966, Madhbi Puri’s father worked in the corporate sector while her mother was a professor of political science. Madhabi Puri Buch completed her schooling in Delhi and Mumbai. A graduate from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, Madhbi Puri did her MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A).
