The Shetrunji Dam, the largest in Saurashtra and the lifeblood of Bhavnagar district, is continuously increasing the level of the dam as the water inflow from the upstream has started. As the Shetrunji dam was 90 percent full late last Saturday, low-lying areas were advised to be alert. 17 low-lying villages have been alerted as the level of Shetrunji Dam reached 34 feet on Monday. At present, while the water income from upstream remains unchanged, 20 gates of the dam have been opened 1 foot and water has been released from the dam. Rainwater has started flowing into the Shetrunji dam in Palitana taluka of Bhavnagar district after few days of rains, due to which the level of the dam is continuously increasing. Last Saturday, since the inflow of 30,350 cusecs of water started in Shetrunji Dam, the dam was 90 percent full at around 2 pm and the dam level reached 32.3 feet, but then the water inflow decreased to 16,232 cusecs at 4 o’clock in the night, the water inflow decreased to 8,117 cusecs at 6 o’clock in the morning.
