Resident doctors across the state on strike from Monday over stipend issue, say 20% hike instead of 40% unacceptable

An important decision was taken by the Gujarat government on 31st August to increase the stipend of interns and resident doctors. In which medical interns of government medical colleges get Rs. 21,840, in dental Rs. 20,160, Physiotherapy Rs.13,440 and Ayurveda and Homeopathy Rs. 15,120 stipend was increased. The state government’s decision to increase the stipend of interns and resident doctors is now being protested. The demand of interns and resident doctors is that instead of the 40 percent increase in stipend since 2009, now only 20 percent increase has been given. Now the increase in stipend will be for 5 years instead of 3 years. Which interns and resident doctors are opposing. Resident doctors will go on strike from Monday (2nd September) in this matter. Emergency service will be started during this time. Shashank Ashra, Vice President of the Junior Doctors Association, said in this regard, “We have submitted 25 times to the state government. But our demand has not been accepted by the government. We also do not want to keep emergency rooms closed and patients to be disturbed, but our demand has not been fulfilled for a long time. That is why we protest. B.J. More than 1200 medical and more than 3500 resident doctors of Gujarat will be on strike and more than 3000 intern doctors of the state will also be on strike. The interns and postgraduates of 6 government and 13 GMERS (Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society) run medical colleges of the state and post graduates and super The rate of stipend received by resident doctors of specialty courses has been increased. According to this increase, medical interns of Government Medical Colleges will get Rs. 21,840, in dental Rs. 20,160, Physiotherapy Rs.13,440 and Ayurveda and Homeopathy Rs. 15,120 stipend. Degree medical residents will get Rs.1,00,800 in the first year, Rs.1,02,480 in the second year, Rs.1,05,000 in the third year, Rs.1,10,880 in the fourth year (senior resident) and clinical assistants will get Rs.1,10,880. Medical Residents in Super Specialist Services Rs.1,20,960 in the first year, Rs.1,26,000 in the second year and Rs.1,34,400 in the third year and Dental Resident (Degree) Rs.78,960 in the first year, Rs.81,480 in the second year, Rs. .83,496, in Physiotherapy (Degree) Rs.35,280 will be paid in the first year and Rs.43,680 in the second year. Medical Resident (Diploma) will be paid a stipend of Rs.75,600 in the first year and Rs.82,320 in the second year. PG in Ayurvedic Services Residents get Rs.50,400 in the first year, Rs.53,760 in the second year and Rs. 57,120 will be paid. Apart from this, interns of graduate courses of GMERS-run medical colleges will receive Rs. 21,840, Junior Residents Rs.1,00,800 and Senior Residents Rs. 1,10,880 will be paid.Junior and senior resident doctors of post-graduate courses in GMERS-run medical colleges will be paid Rs. 1,00,800, in the second year Rs. 1,02,480, in the third year Rs. 1,05,000 in the fourth year (Senior Resident and Clinical Assistant) to Rs. 1,10,880 stipend will be paid. This stipend increase order by the state government dt. has come into effect from 01/04/2024.
