New Delhi: The Supreme Court has said that a committee will soon be constituted to resolve farmers’ grievances permanently in an amicable manner. The Supreme Court has further directed the Punjab and Haryana governments to convince the protesting farmers to move tractors and trolleys from the Shambhu border. A bench comprising Justice Surya Kant, Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan has scheduled further hearing of the case on September 2. The bench directed the Punjab and Haryana governments to convey to the protesting farmers that both the court-bound states are concerned about their issues and that a forum has been set up for redressal of their grievances. In its order, the bench asked the Advocate General of Punjab and the AAG of Haryana to present the proposed issues. These issues will be helpful as a reference for the court-appointed committee. A lawyer in the case said that Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Pratap Sinh Bajwa should be made a member of the committee as he is a High Court judge. The petitioner is the original petitioner. However, Lokesh Sinha, Senior Additional Advocate General of Haryana opposed this proposal and said that no political person should be included in this committee. The bench also said that we will not include any political person in the committee. It is worth mentioning that the farmers of Punjab and Haryana have been protesting at the Shambhu border since February 13. Farmers are demanding a legal guarantee for support prices for their farm produce. The Supreme Court was hearing a plea by the Haryana government challenging the High Court’s order asking it to remove the barricade on the Shambhu border near Ambala within a week.
