Even after the flood waters recede in Vadodara, there is no end to the problems of the city dwellers. The road leading to the society-flats on Motnath Road in Harani area of the city is potholed and hilly. Not only this, the people living in Siddharth Enclave Flats here are ordering drinking water through tankers, the drain covers are open, pits have also been left around the drains. The locals are now crying out of a situation where if you go to escape from one pothole, you will fall victim to another two potholes. A local youth said, “We are forced to live in a worse condition than the village by paying the smart city tax. Akash Patel, who lives in Siddharth Enclave on Motnath Road, said, “I bought a house here in the year 2021. Since then someone is having some problem. A corporator’s stomach is watered only when he repeatedly raises his voice about small and big problems. From last 6 months our condition is getting worse. Small potholes are the only potholes on our roads. We have to procure drinking and consumption water through tankers. It has been about 5 months. During the monsoon season, sewer chambers are exposed on our roads without lids. Large pits are also kept around these chambers. Some places have blocked it, some chambers are left open in a very dangerous condition. Akash Patel added that we are living in a worse condition than the villages by paying taxes in the smart city. At night, we have no street lights, so if we avoid one pothole, the vehicle gets into two other potholes. Rain water fills the pit. Sometimes the drainage gets mixed up in it. So one has to pass this way in a state of nausea. The corporators in our area come, look and go, but do nothing to solve the problem. We have one flats and two residential tenement sites there. In which there are more than 350 houses. In which more than 1200 people live. It is a shame that such a large number of people are facing difficulties but it is not being solved in a smart city.
