Preparations for Mahakumbh are currently being finalized in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Sadhus from all over the country are gathering there. Among them are Tangtoda Sadhus, about whom it is said that their selection is very difficult. A tyagi who renounces his family, gives up his parents and his own pindana and chooses the path of spirituality is called Naga in the Saat Shaiv Akhara. In the big Udsin Akhara, he is called Tangtoda. He joins the core team of this Akhara. The process of making him is very complicated. The interviews conducted for this are tougher than the interviews conducted for IAS in the (UPSC) Civil Services Examination. The Mahants and Pramukh Saints of about five thousand ashrams, monasteries and temples of Shri Panchayati Akhara, spread all over the country, conduct the process of making their suitable disciples into tangtodas. After that, they are presented before the Panchayat, which in a way acts as an interview board for the Akhara. Their interview is said to be tougher than IAS and PCS because the answers to the questions asked are not in any book. Unlike IAS, there is no mock interview.

They go through a tough process of many days:
This process is so tough that only a dozen disciples can succeed in this. After passing this, the disciple is taken to the Sangam and bathed, then the oath of renunciation and the maintenance of the Akhara tradition is made. After being brought to the Akhara, worship is done before the deity. The person is kept in a garment (langot) under the open sky for several days in front of the fire. Then he is allowed to join the Sannyas tradition.

Secret questions related to service are asked:
The Ramta Panch asks him questions that can only be answered by a disciple who has gained real closeness to a saint. The person is asked secret questions related to his Guru Mantra, cooking. The saint gives information about this only to his strong disciples who have served for a long time. The process of tangatoda takes place when the members of the playing panch are completely convinced that the disciple is suitable to go into the Sannyas tradition. Shri Mahant Maheshwar Das of Shri Panchayati Akhara Mota Udasi says, only those disciples who have assimilated the tradition of the Akhara in the company of the Gurus of Mota Udasi Akhara are made tangatoda. Before this, an interview is held in which secret questions related to the Akhara are asked which are not found in any book.
