In spite of interlinking of 53 lakes in Ahmedabad, 89 lakes are overflowing with rainwater to municipal authorities

AHMEDABAD: An average of ten inches of rain fell in Ahmedabad in three days. Scenes of desolation were seen in many areas of the city due to heavy rains. 130 lakes are municipally owned in the city. Out of these 53 lakes are interlinked. There is no water in the ponds for twelve months. However, the municipal authorities expressed their displeasure about the flooding of 89 ponds with rain water. Till the year 2003, the ponds belonging to Auda were interlinked with each other. Efforts have been started by the Municipal Corporation to interlink the ponds in various wards, which are included in the municipal limits. So that these ponds are filled with water during the rainy season. Vijay Patel of the Municipal Water Resource Management Department could not be contacted regarding the ponds. Standing Committee Chairman Dewang Dani said. Among the 130 lakes of Kahu, Mun.Hastak, 53 lakes have been interlinked with each other. The notable thing is that despite spending a large amount of money for interlinking the lakes in the previous years, there is no water in the lakes for twelve months.
