Gandhidham: Depressurization work was done today by Deendayal Port Authority around Kandla Port, which is known and renowned in the country and abroad. More than 600 pressures were removed in Kutch’s biggest demolition. With the removal of these pressures, approximately 400 crores of land has been freed from pressure. Apart from the Banna area of New Kandla, more than five thousand labor families have become homeless after the decommissioning spread over two and a half kilometers in the area known as Ifco slums of Old Kandla. A convoy of police and SRP was deployed to prevent any untoward incident during the pressure relief operation. Although notices were sent to the squatters from time to time, despite the notices being ignored, there was a ruckus early today when the Deen Dayal Port Authority was carrying out pressure removal operations with equipment including bulldozers. About 600 shanties were removed by the Port Authority on approximately 200 acres of land on the coastal lane parallel to Samudra Bay. This pressure was spread over 200 acres of land for four to five decades. In addition to the port administration, 200 CISF personnel and 550 police personnel, 550 JCB, 12 Hitachi Hydra machines, 200 trucks and dumpers were used to remove the debris. According to the information, people have been fishing for more than 50 years. Lives in Kandla. But crime has increased in this area for some time now. According to the system, this operation was done keeping in mind port security, national security and coastal security.

Thus, there has been a series of notices, meetings to remove the pressure for years. But for the last 6-8 months this operation was made tougher. In which the locals were given a notice to remove the pressure voluntarily, the final notice was given 3 days before the pressure was not removed and an announcement was also made that children, elderly and women should move to a safe place on Wednesday. Although the pushers did not budge, at 5 o’clock in the morning on Thursday, a large fleet of bulldozers was taken to remove the pressure, in which crude construction and huts were found and a total of more than 600 pressures were removed. Apart from the Banna area of the new Kandla, the operation was carried out in the area known as Ifco huts of the old Kandla. It was claimed that more than 600 pressures found in these two areas have been removed. In this regard, it was learned from the locals that during the cyclone of 1998 and for some time after that, there were barely 50-60 houses in this area, but after that, the pressure vessel suddenly burst here and the people of Navlakhi area started to live here in more than 600 huts. It was found to be bound. According to locals, the port is 60 years old, but locals have been living here for more than 100 years. Locals used to live where the port is now, but when it came to building the port there, Khasi came to live near the zero point. Even there, people came to live in the present Banna area for approximately 50 years due to development work. It is from here that people have moved to Kharirohar and Tuna and live by fishing. Alleging that even though the local people are from here, they were targeted and forcibly removed at the behest of the industrialists, the locals also alleged that no alternative arrangements were made for them. Locals also talked about the family being given only one packet of biscuits despite being hungry since morning.
