In Rajkot, a family in economic crisis has attempted to cut short their life by committing mass suicide. In the last fifteen months, the cases of mass suicide were: daughter in Gujarat, mother-daughter in Surat-Sarghana, mother-son-husband in Vadodara-Kachiapol, son-father in Disa, mother-child in Junagadh-Vantli, brother-sister in Bhavnagar, mother-two children in Surat-Rander. , son-daughter, father-son in Dholka-Ahmedabad, husband-wife-father-mother-3 children in Surat, daughter-in-law-mother-in-law-two children in Banaskantha and father and three children in Botad-Nitakam total of 17 different family suicide incidents in Gujarat. The real social and economic picture reveals an alarming picture. Economic hardship, growing inequality, social insecurity, interest-ridden indebtedness, fear, burdened families are forced to cut short their lives collectively. Dynamic has become a matter of concern for Gujarat. According to the National Crime Records Bureau report, a total of 25,841 people have committed suicide in Gujarat in the last 3 years. Thus, an average of 25 people commit suicide per day. 8050 people committed suicide in 2020, 8789 in 2021 and 9002 in 2022. Daily Earnings Daily Expenditure – There has been an increase of 50.44 percent in cases of suicides of daily wage laborers with feria lorries. In the last six years, 19,862 daily workers have committed suicide due to economic hardship, social insecurity, declining income and rising expenditure. Thus, while claims of development are being made, the increasing number of suicides in Gujarat presents a true picture of the social and economic condition of Gujarat.
