Heavy rains cause flooding in Europe, more than 22 dead, only water for 1200 km

More than 22 people have been killed so far in Central Europe following the devastation of floods caused by heavy rains. The situation of countries like Romania, Poland, Czech Republic, Austria has worsened. Many cities, towns and villages were submerged in river water. Only water was visible for a distance of about 1200 kilometers from Romania to Poland. Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria and Hungary are also affected due to flooding. Floods have wreaked havoc in six Central European countries. Areas bordering the Czech Republic and Poland are more affected. Over the weekend here, several historic towns were devastated by the flooding of rivers. The bridge was broken. Houses collapsed, trees and plants were also destroyed. Seven people each have died due to floods in Romania and Poland. Five people died in Austria, three in the Czech Republic. One is missing. Thousands of homes do not have electricity. WrocÅ‚aw, Poland’s third largest city, is currently trying to avoid flooding from the Oder and Bystrzica rivers. Half of the city has been threatened by floods, people have been asked to move to safer places.

Michael Nakiewicz, a 44-year-old IT programmer who became a relief worker on an emergency team in Poland, said that everyone here is helping each other. Be it a small child or an elderly person. The WrocÅ‚aw Zoo administration asked for help from the public to place sandbags to protect the animals from the water. To save the 4.50 lakh books present in the city’s main church, people have shifted them to higher places and floors.

Marek Kara, 63, said it was the first time since 1997 that the area had seen so much rain and flooding. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said the next few days are very serious. Everyone is requested to be careful. People have been evacuated overnight from heavily flooded areas. Some people went to see the condition of their houses as the water level decreased on Monday. Some robbers are stealing from the vacant house.
