GLS University FinTech program organized an educational visit to the Bureau of Economics and Statistics, Gandhinagar. This governmental institution plays a crucial role in collecting, analyzing and disseminating statistical and economic data that guide policy decisions across various sectors such as agriculture, industry, trade and finance. The Directorate’s work supports data-driven governance by providing accurate information, maintaining data repositories and conducting surveys that inform state and national policymakers. The primary objective of the visit was to provide students with hands-on exposure to the practical applications of statistical and economic data. Joint Directors Shri Hitesh Shukla and Shri Manoj Kapadia gave a comprehensive overview of the department’s operations while Research Officer Shri J. A. Vaghela elaborated on the various job and career opportunities available through competitive exams. During the visit, students were able to observe firsthand the intricate processes involved in data collection, categorization and interpretation. This gave them valuable insights into how data is leveraged for decision-making in real-world scenarios. They gained a deeper understanding of diverse data collection methods, the types of data managed by statistical organizations and the analytical techniques used to interpret this data for shaping economic policies. The experience significantly enhanced their academic knowledge by connecting theoretical learning with real-world industry practices.Over 50 students from the FinTech Semester 1 program took part in the visit accompanied by faculty coordinators Dr. Devyani Chatterji, Dr. Anjali Trivedi and Dr. Hard Patel. Each student was provided with a comprehensive database of the Socio-Economic Review 2023-24 for Gujarat state, curated by the Department of Economics and Statistics (DES) along with a specialized training module on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
