Gurugram’s ‘Labour Chowk’, popularly known as the Millennium City, is currently looking deserted. It is not because a festival is approaching that the workers have gone on holiday. There is also no restriction on construction activities. The reason why Labor Chowk is deserted is that in the ‘season’ of elections, workers have found the best option to participate in political rallies instead of ‘dihadis’. Every morning workers gather at marked places in the city called Labor Chowk. Whoever needs laborers reaches the labor chowk and takes the laborers for work after fixing the wages etc. Now all the parties are vigorously campaigning for the assembly elections to be held in Haryana on October 5. All political parties have to turn up crowds at the rallies of their big leaders. So these workers are in high demand to gather crowd in this rally.
Labor Chowk usually looks deserted before festivals as during this time laborers leave for their hometowns. Construction activities are banned in winter when Delhi-NCR struggles with air pollution. Even during this time Labor Chowk looks deserted. However, all the parties are vigorously campaigning for the assembly elections in Haryana to be held on October 5. Political parties have to show huge crowds in the rallies of their big leaders. These workers are in high demand to gather crowds in these rallies and for this political parties are hiring them on ‘dihadis’.
