With the arrival of monsoons, the risk of mosquito-borne diseases increases. Meanwhile, chikungunya has increased the concern of people in Pune. A new variant of chikungunya is spreading rapidly in Pune. According to experts, this new variant may prove dangerous for human health. The symptoms of this new variant are also quite different from Chikungunya. Various severe symptoms are seen in the patient after being infected. Some patients are showing symptoms of paralysis after being infected with the new variant of chikungunya. According to media reports, more than 2 thousand cases of mutated virus of chikungunya have been reported in Pune so far. 20 percent of the patients who come to the hospital are patients with strange symptoms. Due to this increasing number of cases, people as well as health experts are worried. According to information, doctors have sought immediate intervention from the National Institute of Virology (NIV) to prevent the spread of the variant.
Why is chikungunya changing?
According to experts, any virus modifies itself to keep itself alive for a long time. That is called mutation. After mutation occurs, a new strain of virus is formed. Which is slightly different and dangerous than before. It is possible that changes in the chikungunya virus are causing the symptoms to change and become more severe. In such a situation, it is very important that samples from newly symptomatic patients are tested in NIV on a large scale to identify the strain and how it can be controlled.
