The Indrani Bridge, which was destroyed in the flood, has been rehabilitated. This bridge connects North Sikkim with the rest of India. The construction of this bridge is a rare example of engineering. The Indrani Bridge constructed by PWD was completely destroyed in the 2023 flash flood in the Tiswa River Valley. The northern part of Sikkim was completely cut off from the rest of the country due to heavy damage to the road network and other bridges. Considering the situation, the Sikkim government issued an order to prepare the suspension belly bridge. After that the survey was done and then the MoU was signed. Now this bridge is ready and its inauguration is today. After getting necessary approvals and clearances, 764 BRTF of BRO started work on Project Swasti. It has completed a 300 feet belly suspension bridge at the Indrani Bridge site. His dedication and engineering expertise have been instrumental in ensuring timely completion of this critical infrastructure project.
A local official said, BRO’s commitment to quality and timely completion of work is reflected in this project. A senior BRO official said their engineering excellence is setting new standards in infrastructure development. We are thankful for their tireless efforts in restoring connectivity to the people of Sikkim. The newly constructed Indrani Bridge is going to be inaugurated today i.e. 12th August. This is an important milestone for the future of this sector. This project not only reconnects the northern region of Sikkim but also paves the way for enhancing economic and social development in the region. The relief commissioner said that we are excited to see the positive impact this bridge will have on the people of Sikkim. He congratulated the BRO for its unwavering commitment to bring progress and prosperity to the region and serve the community.
