Bangladesh Violence: Chief Justice of Bangladesh Supreme Court Obedul Hasan has resigned. The protesters surrounded the Supreme Court and gave a one-hour ultimatum. After which the Chief Justice announced his decision. Speaking to reporters in the Supreme Court premises, the Chief Justice said that in view of the current situation in the country, I have decided to resign keeping in mind the safety of Supreme Court, High Court and lower court judges. After Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh, now all the judges including the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court have come under the target of the protesters. The movement for reservation in Bangladesh later turned violent and due to this violent demonstration, Sheikh Hasina had to resign from the post of Prime Minister and fled the country. On the other hand, the students demanded the resignation of all judges, including Chief Justice Obedul Hasan, who are now targeting the Supreme Court. Hundreds of students besieged the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and demanded the immediate resignation of the Chief Justice. After resigning, the Chief Justice left the complex.
Why did the students lash out at the Chief Justice:
The chief justice called a full-court meeting without consulting the new interim government, prompting student anger. The protesters alleged that the court judges were part of the conspiracy. The full-court meeting was canceled as the situation became tense. But the protesters did not agree and continued to besiege the Supreme Court. The students gave the Chief Justice one hour to resign. After the violent agitation in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina left the country and Mohammad Yunus has now taken over. An interim government has been set up in Bangladesh, with Mohammad Yunus taking a leading role. He took oath on Thursday.
