Another case of HMPV, 10-month-old child tests positive in Assam

The cases of HMPV virus are increasing rapidly in India. Now a new case has come to light in Assam. On Saturday, officials said that a 10-month-old child has been found to be infected with Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV). Officials said that ‘the child is undergoing treatment at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh and his condition is stable now. The child was admitted to government hospitals four days ago due to cold and cough symptoms.’ The hospital superintendent said that ‘HMPV infection was confirmed yesterday after receiving the results of the investigation from ICMR-RMRC in Lahowal. Samples are regularly sent to the Indian Council of Medical Research for investigation in cases related to influenza and flu. This report came in it. This was a routine investigation, during which HMPV infection was detected. The children are now stable. This is a common virus and there is nothing to worry about.

This is not a new virus, cases were found in 2014 too:
Dr. Biswajit Borkakoti, senior scientist at ICMR Regional Medical Research Centre Lahowal (Dibrugarh), said, ‘Since 2014, we have investigated 110 HMPV cases in Dibrugarh district. This is the first case there. This is reported every year and there is nothing new in this.’ Cases of HMPV virus have increased in the country. So far, 13 cases have been reported. Cases have been found in many states including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala.
