Thousands of trucks have been parked along the Jharkhand-West Bengal border as the release of water from a dam in Jharkhand has flooded parts of West Bengal, sparking a major dispute between the two states. So, the entry to West Bengal is closed for 18 hours and the scenes of Chakkajam, about 12 kilometers long, have been created. Along with this, entry of heavy vehicles is being prevented at Dibudih check post located on the Maithon-Jharkhand West Bengal border.
Water release from dam in Jharkhand causes floods in West Bengal, anger:
The West Bengal Police is not taking the name of letting the vehicles go, despite a long standoff from Maithon toll plaza to Nirsa. But the Jharkhand administration is making continuous efforts. Truck drivers are suffering due to long traffic jams, meanwhile buses and small vehicles are being allowed to ply towards Bengal from other lines. Angry people have started stopping vehicles coming from Bengal towards Jharkhand at the border. The release of water from Jharkhand’s Maithon, Panchet and Tenughat dams has inundated many areas bordering Bengal. There has been a lot of displeasure in the West Bengal government regarding this. The Bengal administration gave such a verbal order in anger. However, the West Bengal Police officials stationed at the check post are not giving any clear answer on this and are evasive. They are evading the matter by saying that they are only following the administration’s orders. At night Maithon OP in-charge Akrishta Aman, Nirsa BDO Indralal Odhadar and Agirkund BDO Madhu Kumari reached Bengal Police to get information about Chakkajam and tried to remove Chakkajam. In which no solution was found despite talking to the Bengal Police stationed at the check post. Currently, there does not seem to be any solution to remove Chakkajam.
