
Ahmedabad : Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to Gujarat on August 25 and 26, with a major public meeting scheduled in Nikol in Ahmedabad. On August 25, he arrived directly from Ahmedabad Airport and headed to lead a roadshow from Naroda Haridarshan Crossroads to Nikol Khodaldham Ground. Following the roadshow, Modi is scheduled to address a gathering and inaugurate or lay foundation stones for development projects worth ₹5,477 crore.Tight police security has been deployed across the Nikol area in view of the programme. However, ahead of the event, police detained several Congress leaders and office-bearers. The Congress had planned to wave black flags in protest against poor roads and alleged vote theft. Acting pre-emptively, police detained leaders including party spokesperson Nagji Desai, city Congress president Sonal Patel, vice-president Amit Nayak and others. Meanwhile, NSUI workers staged black flag demonstrations at the starting point of the roadshow, prompting police to drag them away and take them into custody.Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Harsh Sanghvi inspected the route of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s roadshow.
