Rajkot : Due to heavy rains in Saurashtra, water supply through group scheme has been adversely affected in 2,000 villages of Dwarka, Jamnagar, Morbi and Surendranagar districts including Rajkot. Water supply has been stopped for two days due to flooding in Khirai head works of Malia. Morbi’s barrel headworks are also in poor condition. In some other places, water supply has been suspended in more than a thousand villages as the power supply has not yet started. Of course, after the flood waters recede, the details of the water supply board’s washed away pipe line will come out. Tanker system is being considered as an alternative to water distribution. Rajkot, Dwarka and Jamnagar districts of Saurashtra are experiencing heavy rain on one side. Due to incessant rains, the rivers have overflowed. All reservoirs are overflowing. On the other hand, many head works of water supply are flooded. As the power supply is not restored, the water distribution system in the village through the group scheme has been disrupted. Regarding these details, sources in the regional office of the Rajkot Water Supply Board said that water is supplied to the villages of Morbi, Jamnagar and Dwarka districts of Rajkot from Khirai headworks in Malia. But the head works are flooded. Power supply is off. Villages under the group scheme are not getting water as Pipaliya head works of Morbi also get flooded. 150 MLD of Narmada water was supplied to the districts under Rajkot zone. Instead, 50 percent water distribution is ongoing. Of course, the water issue is not serious as the local wells have recovered and the bores have been revived. But after a break in the rains, the work of distributing the water coming out of the rain has to be started speedily. The group plan connecting Saurashtra also said that the pipelines of Hetal have been damaged at many places due to heavy expansion in which the power supply will be restored speedily in the area. It was said that water distribution will be resumed in such areas.
