Viral encephalitis and Chandipura virus infected 101 children in the state

Health Minister Rishikesh Patel has given information against the question asked in the assembly regarding Chandipura virus and viral encephalitis in the state. He gave statistical information about the current situation of viral encephalitis and Chandipura virus cases in the state. In response to a short-term question in the Gujarat Assembly regarding the situation of viral encephalitis and Chandipura virus, Health Minister Rishikesh Patel gave details and said, ‘Not a single new case infected with the virus has been reported in the last six days. While not a single patient has died in the last 12 days. The situation of viral encephalitis or Chandipura infection in the state is completely under control. A total of 164 cases of viral encephalitis have been reported in Gujarat in the year 2024, out of which 61 cases have been found Chandipura positive.

Actions of the State Government to prevent transmission of Chandipura disease:

The state government has taken pro-active steps to prevent the transmission of Chandipura disease. Surveillance operations were carried out in 53999 houses in the state including surrounding areas including suspected and positive affected areas. Apart from this, spraying operations have been carried out in 157074 kacha houses including dusting with melithion powder in 746927 kacha houses of the state. Dusting with melithion powder and spraying in 8649 schools have been done in 31563 schools of the affected areas. In which dusting with malathion powder has been done in 36150 anganwadis and spraying in 8696 anganwadis considering the health of children. According to the information, a total of 164 reported viral encephalitis infected patients have been provided treatment so far. Out of which 73 children have died tragically. While Chandipura infected 28 children have died tragically. Among viral encephalitis and Chandipura virus cases, 88 children have been discharged.
