Rains wreak havoc in Ahmedabad: 4 inches maximum in Narod, Kubernagar market inundated

Ahmedabad : On the last day of the holy month of Shravan, Ahmedabad was lashed by rain from Monday (2nd September) to Tuesday (3rd September) morning. There was a sudden change in the atmosphere on Monday afternoon. Between 6 am and 8 pm on Monday, 4 inches of rain fell in Naroda, Odhav and 2 inches in Nikol. The city receives 33.84 inches of seasonal rainfall with an average rainfall of 28.69 millimeters. The municipal system was running to the shops in Kubernagar market as well as the rainwater in the Saijpur drain. The citizens of Ahmedabad felt that night had fallen in the evening when the atmosphere of the city suddenly changed from 4 pm on Monday. Torrential rains started in many areas in a matter of minutes with strong winds and lightning strikes. Especially in areas including CTM, Odhav, Viratnagar, Malpur, Khadiya, Raipur, as well as Maninagar and Naroda, people returning home from work or business had to stop halfway. Also, more rainfall was observed in the western zone. While normal rainfall was observed in the areas of north-west and south-west zones. Kubernagar market and Saijpur tank were filled with rain water. The water level at Vasna barrage was recorded at 131.25 feet. The water revenue was 5024 cusecs from NMC and 1347 cusecs from Sant Sarovar. An outflow of 9545 cusecs of water was recorded in the river. Gate number 25, 26 and 28 of the barrage were opened by three feet and gate number 29 by two feet.
