The Election Commission on Friday announced the assembly election programs to be held in the country. A press conference was held and it was told in which states the assembly elections are going to be held. The Supreme Court had ordered the government to hold elections in Jammu and Kashmir by September 30. There has been no election since the repeal of Article 370. The Election Commission also plans to hold the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir before September 30. The Election Commission has also recently visited Jammu and Kashmir to review the preparations related to the elections. The last election in Jammu and Kashmir was held in 2014. Since then no elections have been held in the state. People have been waiting for elections since the removal of Article 370. Meanwhile, elections can be held there after 10 years. The biggest change that has happened in Jammu and Kashmir in these 10 years is that it has now become a union territory from a state. Ladakh is no longer even a part of Jammu and Kashmir. Elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir under the rule of the central government. Elections are to be held there for the first time after the abrogation of Article 370. The number of assembly seats in the union territory has also increased to 90. Earlier the tenure of the government was 6 years but now it will be only 5 years. Apart from this, for the first time, elections can be held in the absence of Mufti Mohammad Saeed. After leaving the Congress, Ghulam Nabi Azad has formed his own separate party which will be seen in the election arena.Jammu and Kashmir is a Union Territory with a Legislative Assembly. After the end of full state status, the picture of its assembly has also changed. Jammu and Kashmir now has 114 seats, of which 24 are in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). Thus there are only 90 seats, on which elections will be held. Of the 90, 43 seats are in Kashmir division, while 47 are in Jammu division. Earlier, elections were held on 87 seats only. Now 16 seats have also been reserved, which was not there earlier. Out of which 7 SC and 9 ST have got. Voting was done on 87 seats during the 2014 assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Out of which PDP won 28 seats while BJP won 25 seats. The National Conference won 15 seats. Congress won 12 seats while other forces won 7 seats. PDP got maximum 23 percent votes, after that BJP also got 23 percent votes. The National Conference got 21 percent and Congress 18 percent votes. In the recently held Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir, voting took place on five seats. Out of which BJP and National Conference won two seats each. When an independent won one seat. BJP got 24 percent, National Conference 22 percent, Congress 19 percent and PDP 8 percent.
