Drug production in the name of medicine: Pharma industries need a dose of clarity: More than 6 units caught in a year

Along with drug trafficking by sea, a new challenge of drug production in the name of medicine has been created against Gujarat. In the last one year, police, NCB or other agencies have seized more than half a dozen units manufacturing banned drugs. Units manufacturing prohibited psychotropic drugs in the name of medicine and incidents of such units being caught have created somewhat of a dilemma for the pharma industries. Gujarat’s pharma industries, which are among the top in the country, need a dose of clarity to comply with regulations in this phase of change. The drug, sold as a tonic in African countries and exported from Gujarat, is now banned in India. The Food and Drugs Department claims that action is being taken by the agencies under the NDPS Act as the production of such drugs is illegal without obtaining a license. When the body is tired, illness occurs and drugs and alcohol are consumed. We have been hearing this since childhood, but now it is worrying that drug addiction is produced in the name of medicine. Excessive use of many stimulants or tonics made using chemicals can cause lifelong ailments including constipation, vomiting, dizziness in the long run. That is why there are rules for prescribed dosage and regulated manufacture, sale of medicines. Actions are taken by the government system against those who do not follow such rules. Strict and concerted action has been initiated against drug manufacturers in the name of medicine. A few months ago, a factory manufacturing tramal tablets falling under the prohibited category of dowry was seized. Before this, a mass raid was conducted in Gujarat-Rajasthan and a drug manufacturing factory worth 300 crores was also caught from Palsana in Surat. The controversy over the transfer of a top NCB official after the seizure of a factory with thousands of kilos of drugs near Sanand was also a hot topic. 15 lakh tablets were seized in mass raids at Changodar near Ahmedabad and a bustling tablet manufacturing factory in U.P. Apart from Ahmedabad’s Changodar, Ekleshwar, Saurashtra, the so-called pharmaceutical companies manufacturing such drugs have been caught by the system. Half a dozen units manufacturing banned drugs have been busted by police and agencies in the last one year.

Prohibited drug making currency increased:
Thus, it is the responsibility of the Food and Food and Drugs Department to see whether such units are being manufactured as per the rules, from licensing. But sources in the Food and Drugs Department say that by attaching the word pharma to the name of any unit, the currency of making banned drugs increases alarmingly. NDPS across the country including Gujarat. Under the Act, police, Narcotics Control Bureau and CNB conduct operations including conducting raids and arresting the accused. A drug manufacturer who manufactures a drug that has been banned for two years is not a drug manufacturer. However, the import and export of such drugs are approved by the central government. There are many discussions in the pharma industries and related circles that this situation is creating many challenges for the medicine market that earns crores of foreign exchange. In the last three years, there has been continuous pressure on drug manufacturing companies in India and especially in Gujarat. About half a dozen companies have been caught under police action for failing to comply with the law.
