Frogs may or may not be seen during monsoons, but potholes are bound to be seen in the roads of Ahmedabad in light rains. There is probably no area left in Ahmedabad today where there are no landslides or rough roads. The number of patients with back pain has also increased by 30 percent due to road potholes. Ahmedabad is a ‘Smart City’ in name only. But seeing the way the roads are washed away in the monsoons, the poles of the smart city have been seen to be open. Road potholes have also increased the proportion of lower back pain patients at orthopedics. Road potholes increase the pressure on disc joints. If this happens regularly, it creates a more serious problem. Due to bad roads, people have become victims of back pain, spine and bone diseases. Due to this, there has been a rush of orthopedic patients from private hospitals to government hospitals. In Asarwa and Sola Civil of Ahmedabad, OPDs of Orthopedic Department have seen a drastic increase in cases. An average of 60 out of 100 patients visiting the Orthopedic Department of Asarwa Civil every day are suffering from back pain.
Increase in number of back pain patients:
According to Orthopedic doctors, continuous driving on road potholes can lead to back pain, spine problems. In this regard, the Director of Spine Institute of Civil Hospital Dr. Piyush Mittal said, ‘Usually the number of patients coming with back pain problem increases during monsoon. Now a days people who have weak bones, according to orthopedic doctors, if they have to continuously drive in potholes on the road, it can cause back pain, spine problems.
