A woman doing PhD at Delhi IIT dies in Lothal accident, had been collecting samples for 3 days

A research team that arrived in Lothal from Delhi and Gandhinagar has fallen victim to an accident. In which Surabhi Verma, who is studying PhD at Delhi IIT, has died, while another woman named Yama Dixit has been seriously injured. Both these women were collecting geological samples in the area beyond the limits of the archaeological site in Lothal for the last three days. Officials from Gandhinagar were also present with them. It is known that Yama Dixit and Surabhi Verma are studying PhD from Assistant Professor for Atmospheric Sciences at IIT Delhi. They were collecting geological samples in Lothal for the last three days. Meanwhile, as part of the project, they are collecting samples by descending into a 12 to 15 feet deep pit near Sargwada near Lothal this morning. During this, a landslide suddenly occurred and Surabhi Verma died, while another woman, Yama Dixit, was injured. On being informed about the incident, a convoy of 108 teams, fire and police teams rushed to the spot. Both the women were taken out after a rescue operation. After which they were shifted to Bagodra CHC. The injured woman is undergoing treatment, while Surabhi Verma’s postmortem has been conducted. The deceased Surabhi Verma is originally from Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh and had taken admission in IIT Delhi last year. After that, she had come to collect geological samples near Lothal as part of a research project. During this, Surabhi Verma died in the accident.
