The next Lok Sabha elections may be held with increased seats and elections may be held on 750 seats instead of 543. The Delimitation Act of 2002 has put a moratorium on increasing seats till the year 2026. After which the demarcation can be done on the basis of census figures. Lok Sabha seats may increase after new delimitation. However, there are possibilities of controversy regarding it. If the census is conducted in the year 2027, then there will be no hurdle in the process of demarcation based on its statistics. The census was supposed to be held in the year 2021, but at that time the process was stopped due to the Corona epidemic. Now there are possibilities that the census will be conducted in the year 2027. So, a new demarcation can be done before 2029 without amending the Demarcation Act of 2002. In which Lok Sabha seats may increase.

Population-based delimitation was provided in the Delimitation Act in 2002 without increasing the number of Lok Sabha seats. Based on this, the Lok Sabha seats were demarcated later in the year 2008. At that time, it was being speculated that the new delimitation will be done only after the census in 2031, although the census could not be conducted in 2021, if it is conducted in 2027, then there will be no need to wait till 2031. The next Lok Sabha elections can be held in the year 2029, currently there are 543 seats in the Lok Sabha, if new delimitation is done, the seats can increase to 750. If seats are allocated on the basis of equal population, the representation of southern states may decrease. Which can be opposed by the states of South India.
