Since Ganesha is not discharged in the Tapi river passing through Surat, this year too, the Surat Municipal Corporation started the exercise of making an artificial lake for Ganesh discharge. Statues of Gauri Ganesh and other Ganeshji were also immersed in some areas of the city. As Anand Chaudash is being celebrated tomorrow, all the artificial lakes in the city are being finalized along with the dwindling facility. Following the NGT order, the immersion of any kind of statue has been banned to prevent pollution in the Tapi river passing through Surat. However, since thousands of Ganesha idols are installed in Surat every year, the Municipal Corporation is working to build an artificial lake to dissolve these idols. 21 artificial lakes have been constructed in the new zone of Surat Municipal Corporation. In Varachha Zone, TP Scheme No.-60 (Puna), Final Plot-R-45, artificial pond will be constructed at a cost of 38.01 lakhs against the cost of 35.49 lakhs incurred last year. While in the southern zone, T.P. Near Bhestan Fire Station in Scheme No-22 and T.P. An estimate of 53.82 lakhs has been submitted to construct an artificial lake in front of the Rakdia Hanuman temple at Scheme No-6 (Majura-Khatodara). Apart from this, a proposal was submitted before the Standing Committee for sanctioning the construction of an artificial lake at a cost of 61.36 lakhs in Katargam zone, 44.11 lakhs in Athwa zone and 60.28 lakhs in Sarthana zone. Apart from this, a total of 21 other artificial lakes will be constructed.
