The teachers of Gujarat have been making several representations to the government for implementing the old pension scheme for a long time. Out of which the government had given a guarantee to fulfill some demands by meeting with the government. But no circular has been issued by the government regarding it yet. Then once again today (16th August) teachers from across the state are protesting in Gandhinagar with the demand of implementing the old pension scheme. About 5 thousand teachers of primary secondary and higher secondary education in Gujarat are protesting today in Gandhinagar with the demand of implementing the old pension scheme. Education Department employees of Primary, Secondary and Higher Secondary Other Cadres recruited before 01/04/2005 had earlier met with the Govt. In which it was said that teachers will be given the benefit of pension scheme. But the government has not announced the resolution yet. Regarding this, the employees of the state teachers’ department have reached Gandhinagar, presented themselves with banners and slogans. It may be mentioned that the state currently has around 65,000 employees as on 1/04/2005. Who have not yet been given their right to pension by resolution by the government.

Teachers from various districts of the state reached Gandhinagar:

According to the information, Neja Hatal teachers of Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Maha Sangh will hold a dharna at the Satyagraha camp. Teachers from various districts of the state have reached Gandhinagar with the demand to implement the old pension scheme. From Gir Somnath the teachers left for Gandhinagar by train. A large number of teachers have reached the Satyagraha camp through private cars and buses across the state. Under the old pension scheme, retired employees were entitled to pension. In which 50 percent of the job salary would be available as pension at the time of retirement. In this, as much as the employee completes the job on the basic pay scale, half of it is given as pension at the time of retirement. In the old pension scheme, after retirement the employee continues to enjoy dearness allowance and other allowances like a working employee, i.e. if the government increases any allowance, the pension will increase accordingly.
