Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is once again in the news. Former Rajya Sabha MP and veteran BJP leader Dr. Subramanian Swamy had filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking cancellation of Rahul Gandhi’s Indian citizenship. In his petition, Subramanian Swamy has sought a direction to the Home Ministry to revoke Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship. A hearing on this application may be held in the Delhi High Court next week. In the petition, Swami has claimed that I had complained to the Home Ministry five years ago. So far, it has not been clarified that what decision has been taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs on this issue or what action has been taken?

What was the answer in RTI? :
In the petition, Swamy has demanded that the Delhi High Court seek a state report from the Home Ministry. In response to an RTI request for information on Rahul’s citizenship, the central government refused to share any information. A person sought information about Rahul’s citizenship from the Union Home Ministry under the Right to Information, i.e. RTI. In response, the Ministry said that no disclosure can be made under Section 8(1)(h) and (j) of the RTI Act. Providing information will hamper the investigation process.
