India’s first-ever global Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH) Conclave was successfully organized in Ahmedabad, marking a historic milestone in the field of maternal healthcare. The 3-day conference, held at Hotel Hyatt Ahmedabad from 5th to 7th September 2025, witnessed participation from over 550 doctors and healthcare experts from across the world, making it the only PPH-specific conference held globally.
The conclave featured live surgical workshops and hands-on training sessions on suturing techniques, giving participants an opportunity to gain practical skills alongside clinical insights.
PPH, a severe complication of childbirth, is responsible for nearly 20%–25% of all maternal deaths in India, underscoring its significance in maternal health policy and clinical practice.
Speaking at the conclave, Dr. Mahesh Gupta, Organizing Chairperson, Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, emphasized ““Most maternal deaths in India occur due to complications, and one major factor that increases risks among pregnant women is anaemia. The National Family Health Survey-5 reported that 52.2% of pregnant women aged 15–49 years in India are anaemic. This conclave aims to spread awareness, build capacity, and share best practices to reduce maternal mortality due to PPH. The tragedy of maternal mortality is that young women in their prime are dying due to preventable causes. With consistent interventions, India can achieve its Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target of reducing the MMR to 70 by 2030.”
