New facility in Viramgam to support road safety education and data-led interventions with Gujarat Police

Viramgam, Gujarat, July 10, 2026: Honda India Foundation (HIF), the CSR arm for all Honda group companies in India, today held the ground-breaking ceremony for a Road Safety Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Viramgam, Gujarat, following its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gujarat Police.

The Centre is being developed as a dedicated platform for road safety education, awareness and evidence-based interventions, combining training, simulation-based learning and accident-data analytics to support safer roads in the region. Expected to become operational by 2027, the Centre is projected to benefit approximately 5,000 individuals annually through structured safety programmes.

In its initial phase, supported by HIF, the CoE will include a Road Safety Education & Awareness Wing with an exhibition zone, simulation-based learning facilities and educational tools to engage students, youth groups, local communities and other stakeholders. It will also house an Accident Research & Data Analytics Unit that will analyse accident and traffic patterns, identify high-risk locations and support evidence-based road safety interventions and audits.

The ground-breaking ceremony was attended by Shri Raju Bhargava, Director General of Police (Armed Units), Gujarat; Shri Raghvendra Vatsa, IGP, Ahmedabad Range; Shri Anupam Singh Gahlaut, Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad City; Mr. Vinay Dhingra, Trustee, Honda India Foundation; Mr. Katsuaki Harada, EVP, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India; Mr. Rajeev Taneja, Operating Officer, Honda India Foundation.

On the occasion, Mr. Vinay Dhingra, Trustee, Honda India Foundation, said: “Road safety requires a combination of awareness, training and data-driven insights. Through this Centre of Excellence, we aim to create a practical platform that supports safer road behaviour, promotes road safety education and contributes to more informed safety interventions. This initiative reflects Honda India Foundation’s continued commitment to strengthening road safety awareness and fostering safer road-use practices at the community level.”
