Amazon launches new Fire TV Stick HD in India for Rs 4,999: Specs, features and more

Amazon has rolled out a new Amazon Fire TV Stick HD in India. As you can probably tell from the name, the Fire TV Stick is a pendrive-like gadget you can plug into your television – though HDMI – and make it smarter. The latest iteration offers faster performance and a more compact profile. You can buy it for Rs 4,999.Amazon says the new streaming stick delivers over 30 per cent faster performance on average compared to the previous generation, while also featuring a slimmer design. The new Fire TV Stick HD is 30 per cent slimmer than other devices in the Fire TV lineup, the company claims.

 When you plug the Fire TV Stick HD into a TV’s HDMI port, you can access major streaming platforms, which include Prime Video, Netflix, JioHotstar, YouTube, Zee5, and others. The company noted that subscription charges for streaming services may apply separately.The streaming stick supports Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, which Amazon claims improves streaming reliability and video quality even on slower internet connections. It also comes with support for HDR10+ and Bluetooth 5.3.

One of the major design changes is that the device can now draw power directly from a TV’s USB port using Amazon’s Direct Power feature, eliminating the need for a separate wall adapter in some cases.

The Fire TV Stick HD also ships with the Alexa Voice Remote, allowing users to search content and control playback using voice commands. The device can also control Alexa-compatible smart home products such as lights, fans, air conditioners, and geysers.

Amazon has also added support for Xbox cloud gaming on a Fire TV HD device for the first time. Users can pair a compatible Bluetooth controller and stream Xbox cloud-enabled games through Xbox Game Pass.
