50-year-old Rekha Gupta Jindal will become the ninth Chief Minister of Delhi. She was elected as the leader of the MLA party in the BJP Legislative Party meeting on Wednesday. She is an MLA from Shalimar Bagh seat in the Delhi Assembly elections. She defeated AAP’s Vandana Kumari by 29,595 votes. Rekha is associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and BJP. She is also the General Secretary of Delhi BJP and the National Vice President of BJP Mahila Morcha. The RSS had put forward Rekha Gupta’s name as the fourth Chief Minister of Delhi and the party approved it. Rekha started her career from student politics and has lost the MLA elections twice. However, there are 3 reasons why she was chosen as the Chief Minister. Rekha is also a Vaishya like former CM Arvind Kejriwal. The Vaishya community has a strong hold on business in Delhi. This is always considered a major voter of BJP. For this reason, there were three BJP leaders in the race for the Chief Minister’s post. Apart from Rekha Gupta, there were also the names of Vijendra Gupta and Jitendra Mahajan. In the Delhi Women’s Assembly elections, BJP won a total of 48 seats, securing a total of 45.56% votes. A big reason for this was that BJP had announced many schemes for women.
