Nagpur reports two cases, taking the total number of HMPV cases in the country to seven

The central government has directed the states to increase testing for respiratory diseases including ILI (Influenza Like Illness) and SARI (Severe Acute Respiratory Infection). Apart from this, the central government has asked the states to spread awareness about the measures to prevent Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV). With two cases of HMPV being found in Nagpur today, the total number of cases of this virus in the country has increased to seven. On Tuesday, two suspected cases of HMPV were reported in Nagpur. However, both were discharged after treatment, a senior official said in a statement. According to the official, the samples of these two patients have been sent to AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) in Nagpur and National Institute of Virology in Pune. It is worth mentioning that till yesterday, there were five cases of HMPV in the country including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat. Meanwhile, Union Health Minister J P Nadda said that the government is keeping a close eye on the situation and there is no need to worry. Union Health Secretary Srivastava held a virtual meeting with the states and union territories yesterday. Srivastava said that there is no need to fear this virus because this virus has been present all over the world since 2001.
