Kolkata’s R.G. A lot of anger is being seen across the country regarding the rape and murder of a doctor in the Kar Medical College Hospital. From doctors to common people are demanding strict punishment for the accused who committed this heinous act. Meanwhile, GMERS Medical College of Gandhinagar has instructed women doctors and students to be careful. The dean of this medical college has released a circular for female students. In this circular, women doctors have been asked to take care of themselves instead of providing security. Gandhinagar Medical College Dean Dr. Shobhana Gupta has issued a circular asking women doctors, students and staff not to go out at night and to take someone along if necessary. Stay with a female or familiar colleague even in a hostel. It has also been said that if there is any untoward situation, call women helpline 181. GMERS Medical College Dean Dr. Women doctors and students of the college are very angry about Shobhana Gupta’s circular. He says that the dean’s order does not mention what arrangements have been made for his security. Instead they have been instructed. They say, ‘In an emergency, you have to go out anytime. In such a situation one has to go alone. Medical college administration should take steps to protect them. He is trying to avoid this responsibility. The college management should tighten security across the campus and keep an eye on strangers.’
