Ahmedabad: For patients with stone problems, painless lithotripsy is proving to be a blessing. In just two days, 10 patients have been treated for stones without surgery with lithotripsy at Asarwa Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad. There has been an increase in the number of patients with stone problems for the last few years. Lithotripsy has now been started in Civil for the treatment of stones. Earlier, patients had to go to private hospitals for lithotripsy and due to which they used to spend Rs 10 thousand to Rs 15 thousand. In this regard, Civil Hospital Superintendent Dr. Rakesh Joshi said, ‘Corporate-level facilities have been created at Civil Hospital at a cost of crores of rupees. Which will definitely prove to be very useful for the treatment of stone patients coming to Civil Hospital. Dr. Shrenik Shah, Head of the Urology Department, Civil Hospital, said, ‘Lithotripsy treatment is a safe-effective-patient-friendly method for breaking stones in the kidney-ureter. In two days, ten patients ranging from three years to 89 years old with 1.5 cm to 2 cm stones in the kidney and urinary tract have been successfully treated with the help of lithotripsy. About 40 other stone patients are on the waiting list who will soon be treated with this method and made pain-free. Lithotripsy is a non-surgical procedure that uses focused sound waves or shock waves to break kidney stones into small pieces, which allows them to pass easily through the urinary tract. Lithotripsy is commonly used to treat kidney stones that are too large to pass naturally or that cause significant pain and obstruction.
