Launched through Xtelify in August 2025, Airtel Cloud represents Airtel’s move beyond connectivity into next-generation digital infrastructure, with a strong focus on data sovereignty, security, resilience and regulatory compliance. The platform has been designed to ensure that data, infrastructure and control-plane operations are hosted and governed entirely within India, helping organisations maintain greater control over their digital assets.

The significance of such infrastructure is particularly relevant as India generates and processes unprecedented volumes of digital data. From digital payments and banking transactions to healthcare records, government services and enterprise applications, virtually every digital activity today generates information that needs to be securely stored, processed and accessed.

Airtel Cloud, launched through Xtelify in August 2025, is positioned as India’s first sovereign, telco-grade cloud platform. Originally developed to support Airtel’s own digital ecosystem, the platform has been battle-tested to handle up to 1.4 billion transactions per minute, according to Airtel.

Built around a sovereign-by-design architecture, Airtel Cloud is designed to keep data, infrastructure and control-plane operations hosted and governed entirely within India.

Built on Airtel’s next-generation data centres and nationwide network infrastructure, the platform offers capabilities including 99.99% uptime, geo-redundancy, advanced disaster recovery, immutable backups and continuous data replication.

The platform also offers IaaS, PaaS and GenAI-enabled services, enabling enterprises and government organisations to run mission-critical workloads while maintaining greater control over their data.

A sovereign cloud is a cloud environment designed to ensure that data, infrastructure and cloud operations remain subject to the laws, regulations and governance frameworks of a particular country.

For India, sovereign cloud infrastructure means enabling data to be stored, managed and governed within India, under Indian laws and applicable regulatory and security frameworks.

Importantly, data sovereignty extends beyond the physical location of servers. It can encompass control over metadata, backups, encryption keys, access permissions and cloud-management systems, giving organisations greater control over sensitive information while helping address regulatory and compliance requirements.

Why Is Data Protection Important?

Airtel’s AI-led anti-spam solution, for instance, has identified more than 93 billion spam calls and 4 billion spam messages, while blocking over 1.4 million fraudulent links, according to the company.
