Choryasi toll plaza in Kamrej on the Ahmedabad–Mumbai National Highway (NH-48) became the first barrier-less toll plaza in the country earlier this year. Now, in a step forward to make more toll plazas barrier-free, the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), a company promoted by NHAI, has started the process to implement the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) toll collection system across 24 more toll plazas in Gujarat. The MLFF system aims to eliminate the need for traditional toll booths and barriers, allowing vehicles to pass through at highway speeds while toll fees are deducted automatically. As per three separate Requests for Proposals issued by IHMCL, the company intends to engage “Acquirer Banks” to manage the technical infrastructure and financial processing for these plazas. Once a contract is signed, the successful bidders will have six months to implement the solution and make it operational. The engagement will be for a five-year period after implementation.IHMCL has categorized the 24 plazas into three separate project bundles (GJ-01, GJ-02, and GJ-03). In the first bundle GJ-01, there are 8 toll plazas located on the Ahmedabad–Mumbai Highway (NH-48), Dwarka–Bhavnagar Highway (NH-51), and Pipli–Bhavnagar Highway (NH-751). Bundle-GJ 02 has five plazas, which are mainly located on the Ahmedabad–Godhra Highway, Ahmedabad–Udaipur Highway, and Surat–Vapi Highway.
