Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated Phase 2 of Ahmedabad Metro, flagging off metro services from the Mahatma Mandir Metro Station in Gandhinagar, marking a major boost to urban connectivity in Gujarat.

Sharing glimpses of the inauguration on X, the Prime Minister said, “Our commitment to boosting Ahmedabad’s infrastructure is visible in the various development works initiated. Today, the remaining stretch of Phase 2 of Ahmedabad Metro from Sector 10A to Mahatma Mandir was inaugurated. This will boost ‘Ease of Living’ for the people of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.”

According to the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the inauguration opens a 7.8-kilometre stretch of the metro corridor to the general public. Seven stations—Mahatma Mandir, Sector-24, Sector-16, Old Secretariat, Akshardham, Secretariat and Sector-10 -have become operational under this phase, significantly expanding the city’s modern public transport network.

With the commissioning of this section, commuters can now travel seamlessly along the 28.25-km metro route connecting Motera in Ahmedabad to Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar. Officials said the new connectivity will ensure faster, safer and more comfortable travel, while also helping to ease traffic congestion between the twin cities.
