
On the occasion of National Consumer Day 2025, a special awareness programme was jointly organized by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and Gujarat Science City, Ahmedabad. The mainobjective of the programme was to spread awareness among students and the general public aboutconsumer rights, responsibilities and quality standards.During the programme, Mr. Sumit Sangal, Director, BIS Ahmedabad, addressed the students andexplained that the BIS standard marks displayed on products used in daily life, such as the ISI markand Hallmark jewellery, ensure quality and safety for consumers. He encouraged students to preferBIS-certified products while purchasing and to remain cautious against misleading advertisementsand substandard goods. Mr. Sangal further emphasized that in the digital era, consumers must be well aware of their rights while shopping online. He also provided information about the Consumer Protection Act, grievance redressal mechanisms and platforms such as the National Consumer Helpline (NCH).
