As celebrities increasingly invest in sports, Jackky Bhagnani has stepped into the arena as the co-owner of the Hyderabad Superstars in the World Pickleball League (WPBL). Pickleball—a unique blend of tennis, badminton, and table tennis—is witnessing a global surge in popularity among celebrities as well as diverse age groups across the world. Not to be left behind, India too has now launched a World Pickleball League (WPBL). This is the country’s first global franchise-based league. Jackky Bhagnani believes Pickleball is not only revolutionising fitness regimens but also building communities. He says, “The beauty of pickleball is that it is simple, inclusive and can be enjoyed by just about anyone. It can be competitive but primarily, it builds connections in a very organic way.” In his opinion, Pickleball is much more than a fitness trend and explains, “It is not just a physical activity but a wholesome, engaging and fun experience that uplifts people and brings them a lot of joy.”Jackky is thrilled to be a part of the inaugural season of the WPBL (from January 24 to February 2, 2025), in Mumbai and to cheer for ‘Hyderabad Superstars’ featuring Indian sensation Kuldip Mahajan alongside international players like Max Freeman, Ava Cavataio, and Ross Whittaker.”We have renowned coach Jonny Andrews guiding the team and we are emerging as strong contenders,” says Jackky after a recent landslide victory. The team’s recent performances in the WPBL have already garnered a lot of attention and Jackky concludes, “Thanks to its accessibility and inclusivity, Pickleball might soon grow beyond the label of a niche sport and become an intrinsic part of India’s sporting culture.”
