Traffic and stray cattle problems are widespread in most cities of the state. Regarding this, in the petition filed in the High Court, the court often criticizes the system. While the state municipalities and the government give assurances of solving the problem, but that assurance seems to remain only in the paper of the system’s charter, in reality it is not seen to be implemented. Last week, the High Court took a swipe at the government and the traffic department, and in the next hearing, sources are getting information that the state government has taken an important decision even before the High Court takes up the matter.
Officers shall hold a meeting every month:
An important decision has been taken to solve the traffic problem and stray cattle problem in Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Vadodara, Surat. According to sources, the state government has ordered that a meeting be convened once a month under the chairmanship of the metropolitan commissioner and the city police chief to discuss the problem. The report of this meeting has to be sent to the Home Department and the Urban Development Department. Thereafter a meeting will be held between DCP and Deputy Commissioner every 15 days. The report of the DCP-Deputy Commissioner’s meeting will have to be sent to the Commissioner. The High Court has already made several suggestions to the government in the petition regarding issues such as traffic, stray cattle. The court also questioned the negligence of the traffic police on the road, and the so-called traffic drives conducted by the police. However, the problem is everywhere. After the traffic awareness and drive, now there will be a new cycle of holding officers’ meetings every month. As before, meetings will continue to be held, discussions will be held, but whether a concrete solution to the problem will be found or not is a big question.
Heavy vehicles move freely in the city even during the day:
Despite the Supreme Court’s order, heavy vehicles including private luxury buses, dumpers ply freely in the cities during restricted hours. Are the traffic police sitting on the side of four roads busy with mobiles, or just pretending to let private buses, dumpers pass? Because traffic police or TRB personnel do not see big dumpers or private buses while stopping the common citizen for small talk. Even during peak hours, the traffic problem becomes severe as such heavy plying on the city’s roads. Along with this, the incidence of accidents also increases.
