The Supreme Court has rejected the petition of the bus operators regarding the entry of private buses in the city of Ahmedabad. Earlier, the Gujarat High Court had also rejected a plea to allow private buses to enter the city from 8 am to 10 pm. The order was challenged by the private bus operators in the Supreme Court. The private travel agencies appealed to the Supreme Court citing the right to employment and RTO rules. In the year 2004, 24 hours private bus plying was allowed on 18 routes. It was suggested that the clearance should be maintained on this route.

The High Court asked the private bus operators:
Earlier, the Gujarat High Court had noted in its judgment, ‘Has the situation changed in the last 18 years? In the last two decades, vehicles have increased, traffic management has become difficult and accidents have increased. How can restrictions imposed by the police be considered unfair without any solid data. The operators are responsible for making arrangements for those who wish to use the private bus facility.’
